Having collaborated with artists like Steve Shelley [Sonic Youth], Christina Rosenvinge and Thurston Moore on previous releases, The Wear And Tear Of Fear is almost entirely a solo affair, closer in spirit to his original mid-90’s recordings for Smells Like Records. The album features a pleasant mix of guitars, singing and electronic including two instrumental tracks, recorded by Foljahn at his home and mixed with Fred Smith of Television. As always, the music mines a sound and vision based on "roots" music in the truest sense of the word, building on a tradition found in the work of fellow twisted classicists from Nick Cave to Townes Van Zandt, Serge Gainsbourg to Lee Hazlewood and Leonard Cohen, and transubstantiating these influences into something utterly its own. Over five years in the making, The Wear And Tear Of Fear is an epic journey through love and loss with one of the great American realists. Influenced by Nick Cave to Townes Van Zandt, Serge Gainsbourg to Lee Hazlewood and Leonard Cohen, Foljahan’s lush synthetic orchestrations and mountainous guitars frame the rustic lusty baritone as he wends his way through this wild and windswept landscape, cavorting through the clouds and crawling through the mire. Foljahn recorded this gem in his seaside residence in Hoboken, New Jersey with the exception of except of the title track, which was recorded on location in a room entirely suspended on a sea of hockey pucks in exotic Dumbo.
