Sensational Fix was an extensive, wide-ranging Sonic-centric museum exhibition which took place at 5 museums across Europe (France, Germany, Sweden, Spain, Italy) in 2008-2009. Organized by curator Roland Groenenboom, it focused on the many aspects of Sonic Youth’s artistic interests and intersections. It included art by many of the band’s ‘cover artists’ (Mike Kelley, Raymond Pettibon, Marnie Weber, Gerhard Richter, Richard Prince, Richard Kern, James Welling, Savage Pencil, ….) as well as art made by the band and many of their peers in the music and art communities. The run of each show additionally featured a performance series at the various venues, culminating in a SY performance at Museon in Bolzano, Italy during the run of the show there. An extensive catalog was produced which, in addition to documentation of the artists in the show, presented a history of the band as well as a section of writings by the band. Two 7” singles were included with the catalog - one side each done ’solo’ by Thurston, Kim, Lee and Steve.
