This album pays tribute to the instrument that is, at any given time, the foundation, the glue, and the shining star of music… we’re talking about The Bass.

A man of taste, Don revisits some of his all-time favourite bassists who have inspired and shaped his musical journey, including Paul Jackson, Bernard Edwards, Freddie Washington, Leon Sylvers, Stanley Clarke, Eberhard Weber, and Mr. Pastorius.

Paying homage to these great musicians, il Basso indulges Don’s guilty pleasures and his undeniable love for the bass.

Don states:
“Rather than presenting a ‘bass-heavy’ record full of tricks and illusions, I wanted to create a body of complementing songs that allowed various instruments to equally shine in their given moments. I have so many great memories and such fondness for my favourite ’70s jazz fusion records, which can simultaneously sit in the background or draw the listener in at any given time. I hope that il Basso can serve the listener in the same way—drawing them into the beauty of the bass in its various roles.”

Written, performed, produced, and recorded by Benét, the album draws from the inspirational palette of his vintage-equipped studio, Donnyland Studios.
